Die in Barcelona ansässige Argeninierin Rocio Faks brachte nicht nur wunderschöne Songs, sondern auch eine fantastische Band nach Romanshorn, die sämtliche Erwartungen übertraf.  Die spanische Jazzszene scheint ja von aussen besehen nicht zu den innovativsten zu zählen. Gerade in und um Barcelona gibt es eine grössere Anzahl Musiker, die sehr viel und in wechselnden Besetzungen miteinander arbeiten. Marco Mezquidas oder Gabriel Amargants Agenden sind eindrücklich gefüllt. Da wird auf musikalisch sehr hohem Niveau gespielt, Improvisation wird auf sehr hohem Niveau gepflegt, und dies kommt dem Programm "De los dias, los mas lindos", das in der Alten Kirche zu hören war, zugute. Die Spielfreude war überwältigend, die Arrangements mit ihren reizvollen latinesken rhythmischen Wechseln und Grooves absolut perfekt und natürlich dargeboten. Marco Mezquidas Einleitungen waren einfach traumhaft, Gabriel Amargants Soli ebenso klug wie originell gestaltet, mit einem sonoren Ton auf dem Tenorsaxophon, der an den grossen Sonny Rollins erinnerte. Die Rhythmusgruppe mit dem Bassisten Paco Perera und dem Schlagzeuger Salvador Toscano legte nicht nur ein solides, erdiges Fundament, sondern glänzte auch mit grossartigen Soli. Toscanos Integration der "Bombo legüero", der traditionellen argentinischen Trommel, verlieh dem Drumset eine Authentizität, die den geschmeidigen Jazzgroove immer wieder wirkungsvoll aufrauhte. Schliesslich war es eine grosse Freude, der Sängerin Rocio Faks zuzuhören. Es sind die Schlichtheit und die subtile Nuance, die rhythmische Selbstverständlichkeit der Melodik und der Sprache, von der die Songs leben und die sie so einnehmend machen. Rocio und ihre Band machten die Hörer schlicht und einfach glücklich.

Für die bescheidene Qualität der folgenden Ausschnitte bitte ich um Entschuldigung. Die Aufnahmen sind in Mono, weil ein Kanal des Interfaces ausgefallen ist. Das Mikrophon steht ausserdem am Bühnenrand ziemlich direkt vor Saxophon und Schlagzeug, weshalb der Mix total unausgewogen ist. ABER: Es lohnt sich, genau hinzuhören, es ist doch alles zu hören, und die Aufnahmen vermitteln doch einen schönen Eindruck von der tollen Atmosphäre!

The Barcelona-based Argentinian singer Rocio Fak brought not only beautiful songs, but also a fantastic band to Romanshorn that exceeded all expectations. The Spanish jazz scene seems from the outside not to be among the most innovatives. But especially in and around Barcelona, there are a great number of musicians who work a lot with each other in different constellations. Marco Mezquidas or Gabriel Amargants agendas are filled impressive. Playing skills and improvisation are on a very high level, and the program "los dias de los mas lindos" benefits from it. The joy of playing was overwhelming, the arrangements with her attractive latin-esque rhythmic changes and Grooves absolutely perfect performed. Marco Mezquidas introductions were just fantastic, Gabriel Amargants solos as wise as originally designed, with a sonorous tone on tenor saxophone, reminiscent of the great Sonny Rollins. The rhythm section with bassist Paco Perera and drummer Salvador Toscano not only laid a solid, earthy ground, but also exelled with outstanding solo work. Toscanos integration of the "Bombo legüero", the traditional Argentinian drum, gave the drumset an authenticity that irritated the smooth jazz groove effectively. After all, it was a great joy to listen to singer Rocio Fak. It is the simplicity and subtle nuance, the rhythmic patterns of the melodies and the language, which make the songs so intriguing. Rocio and her band made the audience simply happy.

For the poor quality of the following excerpts I apologize. The recordings are in mono, because a channel of the interface was dead. The microphone is also far too near at the stage right in front of saxophone and drums, so the mix is totally unbalanced. BUT: it is worthwhile to listen carefully, because it gives a nice impression of the great atmosphere!
